5th & 6th Grade Read-a-thon
Who: Twinfield 5th and 6th graders will be reading all day as participants in our Read-a-thon.
What: A Read-a-thon is a day of reading to help raise money for the rest of our year’s field trips. Students will be gathering pledges for the number of pages they read.
When: The Read-a-thon will take place on Friday, February 22nd. Reading will begin at 9:30 and continue until 11:25. We will break for lunch and recess and continue reading for two hours in the afternoon.
Where: The Read-a-thon will be taking place in the 5th and 6th grade classrooms.
Why: The money students earn by reading will help pay for the rest of our year’s field trips.
How can I help? Help support Twinfield readers as a sponsor. You could sponsor a reader a flat amount for participating, or you could pledge money for each page read. For example, as Luella’s sponsor you could pledge $0.25 for each page Luella reads. If Luella reads 100 pages, your pledge total would be $25 ($0.25x100 pages). You may put a limit on any donation. Just indicate that on the pledge form.
You could also help by being a guest reader. Bring a favorite book and read it to the class. Contact the classroom teacher if you would like to to do this.
Ask a student for a sponsor sheet!

WE’RE GOING TO PLIMOTH PLANTATION!
Yes, the fifth grade is going to be visiting Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts on May 30 and 31! This is an overnight trip. More information will follow.
We sent out information late last year and enough people said they would be willing to contribute $50.00 for their child to go, so we can afford it. We also plan on having a few more fundraisers including a Read-a-thon..
Feel free to send in your $50.00, or whatever amount you committed to, any time you like.
We would like to have ten chaperones. They will need to pay $65.00 each. Chaperones would be expected to lead a group and sleep with the students. It’s a big job! If we have more than ten parents who want to chaperone, we will have a lottery.
We’re excited! Thanks for your support!

Hello, Parents and Caregivers!
The first six days of school are behind us, and I am super-psyched to have such a smart and energetic group!
So far, we’ve worked hard on making kites, started math, worked on a journal, started reading Ban this Book, and have a read-aloud going. Next week, we have a lot of testing planned before we start a science unit and some more writing.
Homework starts today. I try to keep it simple for the students and for you. We will generally have a math packet each week. It is given to students on Friday and is due the following Friday. You should also receive the reading homework contract today.
We’re off to a great start! Thanks for all you do. Please always feel free to reach out to me with any concerns or criticisms. Your children are a big part of my life, and I want to do all I can for them.
Sincerely,
Peter Herrick

Hello, Students and Caregivers!
I trust you are having a fantastic summer and doing all the things you like to do. I can’t wait to get to know you better, work hard, learn some new things, and enjoy the school year!
This year, fifth grade students will be asked to purchase some of their own supplies. If this is not possible, please do not fret. There will be some supplies available at school. I have found that many students and their families are eager to purchase their own supplies anyway. It also helps with our classroom budget!
If possible, it would be great if you could come to school with the following items. (You don’t necessarily need them on the first day; the first week is fine.)
That’s it! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave me a message. I will be in school on August 27th and will be glad to get back to you then. Or, you can email me. peterherrick@twinfield.net
I am really excited about the upcoming school year and being your teacher. Enjoy the rest of your summer and relax. It is going to be a great year! See you on the 30th!
Sincerely,
Peter Herrick,
Extension 219
P.S. I do have a wish list!
